As a highlight of the MSWTC's Third Annual Meeting, MSWTC President Bill Yates presented the prestigious Tozzoli International Leadership Award to Hassell Franklin of Houston, MS, in recognition of his leadership in the successful and strategic positioning of his company in the global arena. A graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in Industrial Management, Franklin is President and CEO of the Franklin Corporation, Mississippi's largest privately-owned furniture manufacturing company and the nation's third largest producer of reclining chairs. In 2000, Franklin realized his company had to change the way it did business in order to survive, be competitive and maintain its high level of quality and productivity. The decision was made to outsource some components, adapt lean manufacturing, and implement other cost-saving improvements and techniques. The results were not only beneficial but assured the Franklin Corporation a stronger and much more competitive position in the furniture industry.
